The Robot Arm

July 9th, 2011 by Kalab J. Oster

Ezra got a robot arm from Smith and Edwards. It has a grip that moves to pull a rod that moves clicking gears that moves two pinchers that shut to grab something.

He has been using the robot arm a lot. He used the robot arm to pick-up crushed news paper from a cardboard box holding his great great grandomother’s clock then he released the crushed paper to paper bags for recycling, so the clock could be unpack from the cardboard box, so he could use the cardboard box as a place to reach and grab things with his robot arm.

He Got A Foul Ball

July 5th, 2011 by Kalab J. Oster

We went with Uncle D to see the baseball game the Owlz versus the Raptors. After a few pitches a foul ball was hit to the far end of the field and rolled near where we sat. We sat around Ezra as he stood there with mitt. A player warming-up along the side got the foul ball and tossed it at Ezra. Uncle D caught the ball for Ezra. Then Ezra got the ball signed by the Raptor’s mascot. I was jealous for I have been to more baseball games than him and never got a foul ball, but I was able to enjoy through Ezra getting a foul ball.

Wipe My Own Butt

July 4th, 2011 by Kalab J. Oster

Ezra has some great words of independence for me. ,,I can wipe my own butt,” he said to me. Then he showed me, and then I realized this is more proof of Ezra’s independence!

R.I.P.: The Slinky

June 28th, 2011 by Kalab J. Oster

For 6 dollars of his own money, Ezra bought a metal slinky from the store around the time he bought the kicking stand. And tonight the slinky has been put in the trash for it is no longer a slinky. It was a working slinky four about five months. After it had been stretched out a bit, the slinky actually walked down stairs. It has been a tunnel, a periscope, a rope, a slide for cars, a tether between stuffed animals, a tail, a trunk. Now it is more like a four dimensional shape of knots that never unknot just get worse as we try to untangle the mess of a slinky. Now even Ezra agrees it is too twisted in knots even for his imagination or his safety.

Cars 2

June 26th, 2011 by Kalab J. Oster

Ever since seeing Cars, he has wanted to see Cars 2. We have watched all the Mater Tales. We have Cars LEGOs of which I play Sheriff. He has shirts with Lightening McQueen and underware with Mater. He is wearing a new Cars 2 shirt from Grandma O. He is going to see Cars 2 today. He is excited. No matter the quality of the movie, it will be the Best Movie Ever.

Treasure Map

June 25th, 2011 by Kalab J. Oster

-v- began the game where they were pirates searching for buried treasure using the treasure box Ezra made while at friends birthday party at the Children’s Museum. I drew the first treasure map of where x marked the spot where one hid the treasure box. Ezra traced over the map and hid the final treasures for -v- and me to find. A few times he put the treasure box where X marked the spot, but the last few times he put the treasure box in some other place that where X marked the spot. …So he was probably the best pirate of the three.

,,I’m Done Arting.”

June 22nd, 2011 by Kalab J. Oster

He was done arting after drawing a picture of mom, dad, him and the two cats. Mom is in the middle with her brown stick figure arms out and palms open looking like she is wearing two baseball mitts or has bear claws. I am a purple stick figure standing to the side of mom and across from Ezra. He is a blue stick figure about the half-height of mom and dad. The cats are ovals with stick legs and tails and circle heads.  Triangle hears perk on top of head of scribbles.

We all have smiles for we are happy.

Clifford, El Gran Perro Colorado

Ezra was helping me read Clifford, El Gran Perro Colorado, by pronouncing the many words I could not pronounce :)

Ezra got a mitt

June 19th, 2011 by -v-

I got Ezra a baseball mitt yesterday, and he likes it a lot. Today, ezra and I went to the store to try and find one for dad, as part of his fathers day present. we didn’t have much luck though, because dad is a lefty. All the gloves we found were for right handed players. Ezra was sad. But I told him we would find one for dad sometime soon, and that maybe dad could be the designated hitter. I am more than happy to encourage ezra’s interest in baseball, so if we have to go all over town to find kalab a mt, so we can all play together, then so be it.

The Mitt

June 19th, 2011 by Kalab J. Oster

Ezra got a baseball mitt yesterday, and now t-ball is a thing of the past for he wants to play the catcher, and a catcher only exists in little league. Now with mitt, he wants to play pitcher or fielder instead of just hit. It’s great, but Ezra still needs to learn to use his mitt to catch the ball.

Game Days

June 16th, 2011 by Kalab J. Oster

Today was a game day for t-ball. Yesterday was supposed to be a game day, but it got rained out. The day before was a game day for soccer. And the previous six days were game days for t-ball. Tomorrow and for the next weeks/months/years will likely be game days for Ezra.

-v- and I have already talked about who will be taking home to soccer practice and who will be taking him to little league practice. And I have already realized for one of the many sports Ezra is likely to want to play if his enthusiasm for playing sports remains that I may become an assitant coach. I am ready to accept that position for any game day with Ezra.

Explaning To Him The Pub

June 9th, 2011 by Kalab J. Oster

After leaving the daily t-ball at the park while we watched little league, I went home to clean-up after dinner while -v- and Ezra played more t-ball. I finished cleaning the went to the pub. I met Ezra and -v- on the walk to the pub as they walked home. Ezra was happy to see me, but wondered why I wasn’t walk the same way to home as them. I told him I was going to the pub. He asked why. I replied honestly, ,,To see my friends.” He seemed confused and seemed to questioned why I needed to go to the pub to see my friends. I tried to explain, but then realized explaining to Ezra that dad sometimes needs to be around people is own age that most of who have kids and go to this pub and who want to go be with other adults at the local pub to talk about sports and movies and anything but sheriff and Cars.

T-Ball

June 8th, 2011 by Kalab J. Oster

Aside from him becoming a fan of little league baseball, Ezra is becoming a t-ball player. He’s got his batting stance, swing and ball hitting skills. He can run the bases. He can slide into home like a champ, which he does often and has the knees scraps and grass stains to prove it. So soon I will probably be taking him to little league and becoming one of those parents cheering from the bleachers.

Rock, Sissors, Paper.

June 6th, 2011 by Kalab J. Oster

It’s his new favorite game. A game he can be played over and over and over and over. His technique is getting better. At first, he preferred paper. Now it changes when I least expect it. Last time he won six out of ten.

He laughed as mommy grabbed him. He said, ,,Help Daddy, Mommy’s Got A Hold of Me.”

June 4th, 2011 by Kalab J. Oster

I smiled, said, ,,You better get use to it.”

He’s More Social

June 2nd, 2011 by Kalab J. Oster

Ezra’s more social than me. If we stop to get a snack and a drink some where, he will want to stay and sit at a table and stare out the window and be around people while he eats his snack and drinks his drink. If we are at the park, he prefers that other people are there. If we are watching a baseball game, he will want to sit in the bleechers (where all the people are at) and not in the hill overlooking the field where few people are.
