Seeing Ezra Vomit
Wednesday, January 30th, 2008Seeing Ezra vomit for the first time was weird. Ezra’s face contorted and became all red. His chest convulsed then everything came pouring out like a fountain hurling water to the ground. It was a splash when the vomit hit the ground and not a splat like spit-up. There was a puddle of vomit and not a drop of spit-up.
After the sixth and seventh time of seeing Ezra vomit the weird wore to worry. Though Ezra was still in a really good mood and didn’t exhibit any signs of pain or displeasure or uneasiness or a temperature, we become more concerned when the chest convulsed and only the bile and foam oozed out.
After -v- called the pediatrician, they talked about poop and pee and other symptoms. The pediatrician said maybe it could be a stomach bug and to try giving Ezra electrolyte water to keep him hydrated and too see if he could keep the electrolyte water in the stomach. We bought some pediatric electrolyte water and gave some pediatric electrolyte water to him in intervals of 15 minutes during then next hour and a half. At the end of the hour and a half, Ezra was sleeping, so we laid him down for bed. Then he vomited the pediatric electrolyte water onto the bed. Then more bile was vomited (with a smile I’ll note). The pediatrician did suggest taking him in the emergency room and have him looked over for it could be some thing more than stomach flu. I thought instantly of some thing like viral meningitis.
We took him to the emergency room, and we were at the hospital for near four hours. During the four hours Ezra vomited breast milk, pediatric electrolyte water, and a little bile about nine times total; Ezra had his vitals taken; he was looked over by a triage person, two nurses, and two doctors; Ezra got many complements on how happy and smiling and pleasant he was even when he had a thermometer shoved up his butt; Ezra was given half an Ondansetron; and nearing the fourth hour a doctor came in to see Ezra again and said that Ezra was in too good of a mood and didn’t have any physical signs other than the vomiting to suggest some thing more than some sort of stomach flu. The doctor told us to go home and let him sleep then give him electrolyte water at 5 minute intervals. And if things got worse to bring him back or take him to our pediatrician.
Now Ezra and Valerie are sleeping. He has not vomited since we got home around 4 in the morning. He has had no symptoms of pain or displeasure. He has been in a good mood. He is now eating milk and doesn’t vomit just poops really slimy and stinky diarrhea.
