Play Ball!

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

We went to a Beavers Baseball Game tonight, and Ezra experienced his first live baseball game.

It was an exciting game not only because he got to play a few kids games, but also because they were giving away free Beaver Webkinz. The Webkinz that may be washed before they are handled again because Ezra dropped two of the three Webkinz a few times on the concrete floors and bleachers as Ezra walked around and sat on the bench. It was also an exciting game because there was plenty of action on the field for Ezra to point out to -v- and ask her if she saw that.

Ezra seemed to have a pretty good time eating the fries and a pretzel that was HUGE compared to the pretzel he has had before. I think it was the talk of the snack food at the game all day that encouraged him to go. He remained mostly still in his seat or on -v-’s lap, but he still needs to learn the etiquette of controlling his feet to avoid accidentally kicking the people sitting on the seats below.

Ezra even watched some baseball until the bottom of the fourth when he became tired and wanted to go. And it was late, so we left with our Beaver Webkinz and possibly a new baseball fan.

,,You Didn’t Wash Your Hands.”

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

,,You didn’t wash your hands,” said Ezra to me a few minutes ago as I left the bathroom without washing my hands after peeing and leaving the bathroom for  the kitchen because the soap in the bathroom was empty.

I proudly said with smile, ,,Thank you for reminding me,” and then washed my hands in the kitchen before Ezra.

Reading

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

Ezra wanted to read Goodnight Moon to me for the book we read after brushing teeth. This was after -v- and he read the book Goodnight Moon before brushing his teeth. When he read to me, he read and lead the story. Whether because of repetitious reading of the book, repetitious reading of books or he sort of knows the words, Ezra read most of the book too me. Some sentences I had to begin, but he would end. Then he wanted to read another book to me. The book was No No Yes Yes. And Yes Yes, Ezra did read the book to me. He read the repetitious No No pages and Yes Yes pages while telling the story of the pictures.

Then Ezra read to -v- most of the fifty-five flaps of Snow Day! starring Barney Backhoe.

Ezra Lies

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Today’s lie was his lie that he didn’t have a snack bar today when he did have a snack bar for lunch. He lied because he wanted another snack  bar for dinner. When we asked him what happened to his bar we gave him for lunch, Ezra first said two guys took it from him then he said his friend M took it at lunch. And then he said he didn’t get one in his lunch box. Then he said he wanted another bar.

Yikes!

It’s a good thing that Kalab is back onboard the goldenpigtales wagon. Otherwise this would have been a boring month with no tales told. Thanks Kalab!

I have a new office downtown. Earlier this month, I took Ezra to mommy’s new office. I showed him my desk and the people who work with me, I showed him the chairs that you roll around on wheels, and I showed him the big balls we have to sit on sometimes. Then I wheeled him over in a chair to what ended up being his favorite part of mommy’s new office: the lollipop bowl. It was such a hit that now whenever we’re in the car heading in the direction of downtown, Ezra asks me when he can go back to my office. I am assuming because of the lollipops, but then again, I like it just because of what it is, so maybe he does too.

Clean-up The Garbage

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

This morning Ezra pointed out to me that I need to vacuum the rugs because I didn’t yesterday. He picked-up a pieces of crumb to show me why I needed to vacuum the rug.

I told Ezra that I couldn’t vacuum because his toys were on the rugs, so Ezra got his garbage truck and made all the other toys garbage that we then loaded into his garbage truck for him to dump at another place thus clearing the rugs for me to vacuum.

We Will Rock You (Sock You)

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

Ezra’s new favorite band is Queen. It started with him walking around the house saying, ,,We will. We will rock you. Sock you.” to the beat of Queen’s We Will Rock You. He must have picked it up from Pre-school. Where ever the words and chant came to Ezra, now that he has heard the song sung by Queen along with We Are The Champions, Ezra wants to hear the song often. It has even got him back into wanting to hear Johnny Cash after several listens to Queen.

Binky Until 5?

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

I asked Ezra if he is ready to give-up his binky when he is 3, and he replied he will be ready when he is 5.

The Fucking Binky

Monday, July 19th, 2010

If tonight was any preview of what is to come when Ezra is three years old and Ezra has been told he will need to give-up the binky then there will be lots of crying and fussing, which will likely result in Ezra not giving up his binky when he is three.

Mass Transit Snob

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

While leaving to go to Yoshida’s SAND IN THE CITY, Ezra insisted we take a bus for we were taking the car to help take his stroller along for the inevitably ride on the city train some where and the following walk back. Ezra likes the city train and the bus and after a time Ezra doesn’t like to walk. So we took the bus because Ezra insisted. Ezra played in sand. We took the city train to the Saturday Market and walked back to the bus stops because Ezra want to walk along the water front, so -v- carried Ezra. Ezra did walk a long way. And it was probably best we didn’t drive. I only wish I could have helped -v- carry Ezra, and that I had recorded his insisting words to take the bus for I would like to play it to him again when he is a teenager and will probably think the bus is lame.

,,THERE’S A PIECE OF WOODEN TRACK IN EZRA’S EYE!”

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

-v- woke with me saying the words loud, ,,THERE’S A PIECE OF WOODEN TRACK IN EZRA’S EYE!” for when Ezra woke and came down stairs  he had his right hand over his right eye. He kept saying he got track in his eye over and over, and I tried to get him to move his hand, so I could see, and he didn’t and wouldn’t move his hand, and he kept complaining, and then finally he moved his hand.

His eye was closed by goo and looked swollen.

I freaked out! Ran upstairs, and woke Valerie with,  ,,THERE’S A PIECE OF WOODEN TRACK IN EZRA’S EYE!”

…There was no wooden track in Ezra’s eye. He only had gooy eye. Once -v- calmly applied a warm cloth Ezra’s eye the eye lide opened withoout a piece of wooden track in his eye.

Ezra Wanted Some Whisky

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

Ezra and I were sitting on the porch having our treats. He was having a Popsicle, and I was having a whiskey (because we only had one Popsicle left, and I needed a whisky). Normally, there comes a point while we are having our Popsicles when Ezra will ask to try mine and we will try each other’s Popsicles. This happened to day, and Ezra said in his cute voice, ,,Can I try your whisky?”

I have to be honest that I did hesitate for an instant before saying, ,,No.”

When he asked, ,,Why?” I replied, ,,Because you have to be a dad to have this treat.”

Ezra’s Finger Prints Are All Over The Computer Screen

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Ezra likes to touch the computer screen when he points which Caillou he wants to watch or what picture he wants to see leaving finger prints all over the surface.

-v- and I have tried to teach him not to touch the computer’s screen to avoid having his finger prints all over the screen, but we have realized we are probably confusing him because we let him play educational game’s on -v-’s iPod Touch that demand him to touch the screen.

So, I suppose Ezra is just adjusting to the future of computing while -v- and I are living during the past.

Nap Chaos

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

During the past week with pre-school on week long break and with the heat, Ezra’s nap schedule is off. He skipped his nap the past two days causing Ezra to bemoan how he is not tired at night at bed time then fall asleep two seconds later. Today he started his nap around four. Fortunately, I got him to wake up about an hour later with the promise of meatballs for dinner and a Popsicle for dessert. And he seems to still be tired enough that he won’t be up late tonight.

Picking Blue Berries

Saturday, July 10th, 2010

We picked blue berries this morning. All of the blue berries -v- and I picked ending up in the buckets while Ezra’s bucket mysteriously remained emptied the entire time while blue berry stains manifested around his mouth. During on point, Ezra insisted on wanting to see my horde of blue berries only to show he likes to see with his mouth and hands as he grabbed a fist of blue berries and put them in his mouth.

Almost 3!

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

I can’t believe that Ezra is almost 3! In about a month he’ll have his 3rd birthday. We’re perhaps going to have a firetruck theme, based on Ezra’s interest in the fire truck cake making video on youtube, but he also likes the farm cake. He asked for a firetruck farm cake, which I think would be hard to combine, but maybe I’m just not thinking like a 3 year old. He knows that we want him to give up his binky when he turns 3, so in some ways I think he’s not as excited about his birthday. That sort of makes me feel bad, but I also feel like he needs to give up the binky for good. He’s only supposed to have it when he’s in bed getting ready for sleep, but lately he’s taken to going upstairs to “take a rest” which is code for “have my binky”. We’ll see…
