Grinding Teeth

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Ezra has found not only that it is fun to move the jaw side to side giving him Frankenstein Jaw, but while doing this he now grinds his teeth together. This discovery of teeth grinding is unnerving. It reminds me of fingers against the chalk board.

From Laying Stomach, Sitting Upright

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

While Ezra has yet to perfect his crawling technique, he has perfected his technique from laying flat on his stomach to sitting upright. This is no small feat because it took him a time to learn to sit upright, and it took him a time to lift up his chest with his arms. AND it took him a time to roll over. All these techniques are used as he lifts his chest off the ground with arms, swings a leg around (like he is rolling over) and plants his bottom on the ground and lifts his torso upright with arms and chest. He has become so good at this sitting upright technique that he can move across the floor by laying on stomach and sitting upright, laying on the floor, sitting upright, laying on the floor, sitting upright, etc…

Ezra Not Liking White Strawberry Smooth Flavored Amoxicillin / Clavulanate Potassium

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

Unlike Bubble Gum Amoxicillin, Ezra doesn’t smile or open wide for the White Strawberry Smooth Flavored Amoxicillin / Clavulanate Potassium. In fact, after giving him the second dose of the White Strawberry Smooth Flavored Amoxicillin / Clavulanate Potassium Ezra tries to spit it out and frowns. And not only does Ezra appear to be not liking the White Strawberry Smooth Flavored Amoxicillin / Clavulanate Potassium, but the White Strawberry Smooth Flavored Amoxicillin / Clavulanate Potassium leaves a white powder stain on everything it touches, so after giving Ezra the meds and after he tries to spit it up after the second dose either -v- or I are likely to be left with a white outline of Ezra’s lips on the shoulder of our shirts or on the couch or sofa.

Safety First

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Ezra is slowly but surely moving away from feeding from bottles and boobs to eating regular food and drinking from a sippy cup. I have Born Free sippy cups just waiting to be used once Ezra is ready to try them (as more than just noisemakers he can bang on the table). We have some plastic bowls and utensils that I’ve been using, but I have been doing some internet investigations on the safety of these. Using plastic sort of stresses me out: is it BPA free? Phthalate free? PVC free? What if it has cute designs on the outside that are painted on with lead paint? So far, I think I’m safe with what I have, but you never know what chemical of concern might come up next week. Glass makes me a little uncomfortable because Ezra has a strong grip and I sort of fear having him grab the bowl, bang it on the table, break it, and slice his hand open. That leaves me with stainless steel or metal, or wood. I was looking at these wooden salad bowls that Kalab and I got as a wedding present…maybe that’s what Ezra should eat from? With his fingers, I guess. Maybe we can wait to have him use regular stainless utensils once he stops waving everything around so close to his face. Wouldn’t want him to poke an eye out. Safety First!

Ezra Can Make A Snore

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Ezra is snoring during first nap, the morning nap. He is snoring loud and long and clear. His snores are heard through the monitor and sound sort of like a loud and soft continuous fart. Hearing the snore in the room the snore doesn’t sound like a continuous fart. Hearing the snore in the room there is no denying that he is his father’s son with his deep and smooth snore. …The boy can make a snore!

…And Then There Was Shit.

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Though it is not rolls and logs, Ezra now shits. The shit is thick enough to now need to scrape some of the shit off of the Fuzzi Bunz before they are put in to the wash. The shit has fibers and is like a thick wool blanket of poop that changes colors depending on what he ate. The loose poop that once coated the skin and took many wipes to clean off the skin is poop that is no longer. His eating solid food has evolved the poop. Now that poop is shit.

Ezra Likes My Waffles

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

For the first time, I cooked breakfast for Ezra and -v- and me. Ezra was able to join in the breakfast fun by eating small piece of waffle fed to him by -v-. Ezra also had a side of apple sauce with his waffles while -v- and I had a side of two sausage links. Some day Ezra will be able to enjoy the taste of fat and meat of a hot sausage, but for now he will have to enjoy my waffles.

IT’S EZRA’S 7 MONTH BIRTHDAY!

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ezra is seven months old!

White Strawberry Smooth Flavored Amoxicillin / Clavulanate Potassium

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

-v- took him into the pediatrician today to confirm what we have suspected for the past couple of days. The suspicion began with the return of the boogers in Ezra’s eyes. Then Ezra began to rub his ears. Then began the fussiness without known cause. We found today that even after completing the last cycle of Amoxicillin, the bubble gum Amoxicillin, the ear infection has returned.

The doctor did warn us that Ezra’s first prescription may not take care of the infection because the infection could be too strong for just Amoxicillin, but she didn’t want to give him the super Amoxicillin because it kill lots of bacteria not just the bacteria causing the ear infection. That didn’t work. It helped, but the bubble gum flavored Amoxicillin didn’t kill the bacteria off, so now Ezra is on a ten day cycle of white strawberry smooth flavored Amoxicillin/Clavulanate Potassium.

Grandparents Are Better Than Daycare

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

Besides the fact Grandparents mean I love you when said or written to Ezra and the daycare says and writes We Love Ezra to be polite for getting paid, Grandparents have more fun with Ezra, and Ezra is happier and more excited after a day with grandparents.

Crawling Hurts

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

It’s obvious that Ezra wants to walk more than crawl. He smiles more when he walks than when he is in a crawling position. And while he is a very good walker if someone is helping him balance, he can’t walk on his own because all the muscles just aren’t there yet, but the ones that are show a coordination that is impressive.

However good the walking is becoming, we would like to see Ezra move beyond his occasional slide crawl and actually crawl, but he seems to have no interest. We suspect his lack of interest is because he sees everyone walking, so he wants to walk too.

In an effort to show Ezra how much fun crawling is and how to crawl (to hopefully create interest for crawling in Ezra), I have been crawling around Ezra. And while I think my crawling around Ezra is giving Ezra more of an interest in crawling because he will remain in the crawl position longer when I crawl around, crawling hurts when you are older, so I can’t show Ezra crawling very long before I realize I am not kid anymore and that crawling on hands and knees now hurts.

Sweeeeeet

Potatoes! Ezra LOVES sweet potatoes. Sweeet!

Ezra likes sweet potatoes a little bit more than he likes avocado, but the kid does love him some creamy green stuff. A few more weeks and we can add some chopped up tomato and spices, and me and Kalab can sit on the couch with Ezra and eat chips and guac. Yummy! Here are Ezra’s food likes and dislikes thus far, 10 being favorite, 1 being yucky:

10. sweet potato

9. avocado

8. Cheetos Natural Puffs (oops!)

7.Bread Crusts

6. Peas

5. Banana

4. Papaya

3. Mango

2. Oatmeal

1. Rice Cereal

The Sign For Milk

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

I have been showing and talking with Ezra about sign language this past week. It is something that is both educational for me and some way I can interact and bond with Ezra. So far, Ezra just stares at me or laughs or smiles when I make the hand gestures to associate the sign with an object like mom or dad or triangle or square. So far, I don’t think Ezra has all the coordination needed to make the forms to count numbers or form letters of the alphabet or signs for objects. However, I have hope some day (maybe months or years from now) he will able to sign for many things. Or maybe he will lose interest and the signing lessons will stop. That is up to him. For now, I do have some encouragement to continue to do the sign language lessons for he can make the sign for milk, which is the right hand starting in the C-formation and then clenching the hand like milking an utter of a cow. Ezra can do this sign just fine, but I don’t think he has yet made the connection between the sign itself and the object milk.
