Big Baby Diapers

Monday, October 15th, 2007

Today was another stage in the growth of Ezra. For the second time since his life began, Ezra has moved up a diaper size. After one too many poop bombs exploding everywhere, and after a few poop leaks during the past days when the diapers were unable to contain the mighty force and mass of Ezra poop, we decided it was time to move him up a size to contain the madness that occurs under the cover and protection of those diapers. No longer will my boy be wearing those new born or almost new born diapers. Not my son. No sir.

A Good Weekend

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

After a tense couple days of Ezra and I adjusting to another again after almost a week apart, the weekend has proven to be both a bonding and relaxing experience. Even with the potential of Ezra being sick or feeling bad because of his immunization shots, the days have been relaxing, and Ezra didn’t become sick or fussy. He has slept a lot this weekend, which could have a little to do with me being sane and happy :) but it’s not the only reason. He’s been more calm during the day. He got fussy, but after two months I am have become more confident and proficient at knowing what he wants and needs. And though there was a lot of poop pooped yesterday, and today Ezra seems to have been a spit up factory creating many new abstract pieces of art that will soon wash away, it was just life.

Ezra’s Mullet

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

Ezra’s mullet appears to have gotten longer. It could be because Ezra was gone for six days. It could be that the mullet hair contrasts against his near bald head. What ever the reason, Ezra has a mullet.

While Ezra is far from having the styling and studly mullet I had when I was a young teenager, his mullet is quiet long for a baby. The mullet is not long enough to put into a pony tail, which would make Ezra the coolest baby in the world for nothing shows cool like a mullet pulled back in a pony tail.

So Tall! So Brave!

Friday, October 12th, 2007

Ezra is a tall, brave baby!

The visit to the doctor for the 2 month well baby check-up included the weigh-in: 12.04 lbs, 25 inches! The dr. guessed that I must be a bit surprised that he’s already too tall for most his newborn clothes.

But this trip to the doctor also included the dreaded immunization shots I have heard so much about from some other moms. Stories of babies screaming and crying because they were in pain from the shots, of babies developing fevers and being cranky for days…granted, these are not so serious as far as side effects go, but they were all I could think about on the way to the doctor. I didn’t want to see my baby in pain! However, when the nurses came in and did their jobs with the jabs, he hardly cried at all! And he was actually pretty calm the remainder of the day, too. So far, so good (knock on wood)!

Four Shots!

Friday, October 12th, 2007

No, Ezra wasn’t shooting alcohol or heroin, he was getting some of his immunization shots earlier today.

Ezra went to visit the doctor today, and I have been told by -v- (who was told by the doctor) that Ezra is a healthy boy. A boy that is tall for his age. A boy that didn’t cry like a baby when he had a needle jabbed into both his thighs twice!

As a result of the shots, Ezra has been feeling a bit sore, but we got him a prescription of Baby Tylenol which seems to take the edge off.

He is now sleeping after a day of smiling and looking around.

We’re Back!

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

Ezra and I got back last night from our fun trip to Wisconsin. I had the best baby on the plane on the way there, and on the way back! He was so well behaved and calm - I was so proud of my baby! Here are a few thoughts on the trip:

In Wisconsin, everyone was excited to meet the baby Ezra, and he made sure to be on his best behaviour to impress them all. He met great aunts and uncles, second cousins, and a whole mess of other relatives and relatives of relatives. But the best part of the whole trip was Ezra meeting his great-grandpa T, who told me that Ezra is the first of his 5 great-grandchildren (all girls) that he’s gotten to hold. (This made me cry!) Is this not the happiest picture?

Great Grandad and EzraI now am on a mission to find a pair of little baby striped bib overalls for Ezra. Apparently I had a pair when I was like, 1 or 2, which my mom has stashed away somewhere.

Ezra might like to travel, but I think only when he’s on his meds. He was very easygoing and relaxed, even when we were dragging him halfway across the state and back three times a day. He had only one day where he was at all fussy, and that was the day we didn’t go anywhere! In order to ensure that the good times lasted the whole trip, I had to go to the pharmacy while I was there and get a refill of the baby Zantec, which ran out on Sunday. For future reference, check the amount of medicine you have for the baby a couple days before you leave and make sure you have enough to last the whole trip!

At the airport on the way back, we had another occurrence of the poo Explosion! I was carrying him through the terminal in the baby bjorn, and we got to the gate and I decided to change him before we would get on the plane. I went to the women’s restroom to use the diaper change station. I did not go in well-prepared for the Explosion that greeted me - he had poo up to his neck! So I tried to tidy him up a bit, but had to pack him up and go back to the gate to finish because he needed a change of clothes. So I get him clean, fix his diaper, change his clothes, and am very relieved, when what do you think might happen? Of course - more poo! So I had to change the diaper again. While there was no explosion of poo, it did rise up the back a little, necessitating more clean up. I think my previous hypothesis about the baby bjorn being behind (hee hee!) the poo explosion is still plausible, I also think that the poo explosions may be the result of Ezra being too big for his britches. It seems like he’s maybe grown out of the size 1 pampers…which sucks, because I have like, 150 of them left!

All in all, it was a great trip, but we did miss daddy : )

Return of The Ezra

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

Ezra has return home! Ezra is back! Let the crying, crankiness, craziness, fussiness, sleeplessness, drowsiness, confusion, self doubt, chaos, tension, poopy diapers, spit up, reflux, holding, soothing, bathing, washing, cleaning, walking, waking, wishing, wondering, worrying, talking, holding, bouncing, singing, feeding, burping and FUN begin!

EZRA IS 2 MONTHS OLD!

Sunday, October 7th, 2007

That’s right! Ezra is two months old. Now even -v- will think of him as a month old, but still in weeks.

…Ezra is still away, so I can’t sing him my Ezra Birthday Song. But I can write it! The song only has one line repeated over and over: Yay! Yay! Yay! It’s Ezra’s Birthday, day, day.

Ezra Report (Source of information is -v-) And Self Evaluation

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

Ezra has been reported as doing fine. Calm and not too fussy.

Ezra is missed. I don’t feel the tension of being on call to action by Ezra. I feel I am  weaker by the days he is away. For I am getting lazy. I have been sleeping eight hours without stop. I have been sitting around in the same place for long periods of time. I haven’t felt the rush of tension when Ezra needs have me march round the house and bounce to calm him. I don’t feel the instinct to awake and check to make sure Ezra is alive.  I have lost my edge.

Distant Ezra Talking

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Last night Jigga, a cat roommate we live with, was walking around making noises that reminded me of the sounds Ezra makes when I am on the couch and Ezra is in another room. These sounds were not the sounds I have heard Jigga make before. These were new sounds. These sounds made me have a tense anticipation of needing to stop and go see what Ezra was needing. These unique sounds Jigga was making sounded like Ezra was in another room and needed more attention.

I recorded a video. I was sitting on the couch last night. It was about the time of Ezra’s normal bedtime, and I hear often Ezra loud taking before his bedtime. The sound in the recording is a good example of the actual volume of the Jigga’s impersonation of Ezra loud talking in another room while I am on the couch. The volume will need to be up, but that’s sort of how it is when Ezra is around and loud talking in another room.

…Today, I have been siting on the couch writing and publishing all day. Jigga’s has had normal I-am-missing-v whine talk.

The house was really lifeless today. Jigga, Sassy and I are looking bored. Or rather boring without the craziness of Ezra.

The Orbit of Ezranik

Thursday, October 4th, 2007

Ezranik was in a low orbit today, and he was probably looking down with smiles when people of the midwest looked up in the sky around noon today to remember the time they looked up after thinking of Sputnik 50 years ago.

…It was Ezra’s first flight today.

-v- said Ezra didn’t even make a fuss. Said a poopy diaper of Ezra’s was changed with ease and no Ezra fussiness.

Deep inside I am jealous of -v- having been the only one of us to fly with Ezra during his first flight. First I miss out on the Explosion! (of poop), and now I miss out on Ezra’s first flight over America. I wonder what I will miss next?

Booble Head Ezra

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Ezra’s neck is getting stronger. I have noticed this today, yesterday, and for the past couple of weeks.

No longer does his chin rest against his chest. Now he can actually hold his head up and look around and turn his head. For minutes at a time, he holds his head up. After about a couple of minutes his head sways for balance. Then he holds it straight. Then POLP! His head fall back to the nearest supporting surface.

Is C-SPAN White Noise As Magical As Vacuum White Noise?

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

I was listening to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing on C-SPAN early this morning. Before the hearing began, Ezra was restless and kicking around. He didn’t want to relax. Nothing could get him to calm down. Then minutes after the hearing began Ezra was a sleep, and Ezra didn’t wake up until two hours later when I turned off the committee hearing. Amazing? Magical? Or just a natural reaction to listening to rhetoric?

Explosion!

Monday, October 1st, 2007

If only I had a picture…

I put Ezra in one of his onesies and a new fleece outfit that Auntie Kate got for him last week at Costco…it’s cold outside! Then I took Ezra for a walk in the Baby Bjorn. We went to the coffee shop, and then walked our usual route down around the school and back home. Once we got home, Ezra was still sleeping, so I did a few things around the house while he was still strapped in and I had my hands free. I took him out a while later and we played a little house tour and listened to some music.  By then a couple hours had passed, so I decided to change him before he needed to eat again (due to the remaining-upright-for-30-minutes-after-feeding rule). I unsnapped the fleece suit’s legs, and knew immediately that something was very wrong. The onesie was very wet and sort of sticky. It was a poo explosion! There was poo everywhere - on Ezra’s back underneath the onesie, on the back of the onesie, and soon after I took the diaper off, on Ezra’s socks as well.

And yet, the fleece suit remained remarkably dry on the outside, with absolutely no signs of the destructive poo explosion that had happened inside…

I have a theory that this explosion actually took place sometime while Ezra was strapped into the Baby Bjorn - I think that basically the poo had no where to go but up due to the way the baby sits all astraddle in there.
